Samoa is putting forward proven results in disability inclusion through the endorsement of Mata’afa Ammelya Faatino Masunu Utumapu for election to the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) for 2027-2030 term.

Mata’afa’s leadership reflects a track record of real delivery across systems and communities, demonstrating how global commitments can translate into meaningful impact for persons with disabilities.

Her work has contributed to:

-National Programmes reaching thousands of persons with disabilities

-Strengthened CRPD implementation and reporting across the Pacific

-Integration of disability data into national systems

-Expanded access to inclusive services and social protection

-Capacity building for governments and community stakeholders.

As General Manager of Nuanua o le Nuanua O Le Alofa, Disability Advocacy Organisation in Samoa (NOLA Samoa) and Co-Chair of the Pacific Disability Forum, Matā’afa continues to bridge policy and practice, ensuring inclusion is not only designed but delivered.

“This is about results, not rhetoric. Samoa is demonstrating that inclusion works when systems are accountable, data-driven and grounded in communities” said Loau Nina Va’a, CEO of MWCSD.

Samoa’s endorsement reflects a broader national approach;

From community to global systems delivering inclusion that works.

As a Small Island Developing State, Samoa brings a practical and community-driven perspective to global disability inclusion, one that prioritizes implementation, cultural context and measurable outcomes.

The Government of Samoa calls on Member States to support Mata’afa Faatino Utumapu’s candidacy and advance inclusive systems where no one is left behind.

“Inclusion must be felt in people’s lives, in our villages, our systems and our future. This is the standard we bring to global stage.”
