The UN Secretary General โ€“ Antonio Guteress met with the Pacific Heads of Delegations at a special luncheon co – hosted by the Australian Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN and Tonga as the Incoming Chair of PIFS. The meeting provided an opportunity to focus discussions on the issues pertaining to the Pacific in partnership with the UN. Pacific Ministers in attendance spoke on different Pacific related issues and topics such as Climate, Peace and Security, sea level rise and the Pacific Representation in the UN. In particular, the Hon. Minister Mulipola Anarosa Ale Molio’o spoke on behalf of the Pacific to highlight its expectations for the upcoming Small Islands Development States (SIDS) Conference in May, 2024. These expectations are; that the Conference will provide an opportunity to accelerate international assistance towards the sustainable development of SIDS and also deliver practical outcomes that address the unique and specific circumstances that SIDS face. In addition, the Hon. Minister stated that securing these outcomes will require the leadership of the UN Secretary General.
